King Croc of Dubai Aquarium is about to become a dad!

Avatar

Congratulations to King and Queen Croc who are about to make their family even bigger!

Anyone who has been to the Dubai Aquarium in the past few months will have been wowed by the huge beast that is King Croc and of course his missus Queen Croc. Both arrived from Australia in June and have been keeping visitors to the huge aquarium very impressed ever since. Well things are about to get even more exciting as we just got news that the croc couple are about to become parents.

King Croc’s female companion of over 20 years ‘Queen Croc’ has laid 59 eggs, and several of them are ready to hatch after an incubation period of 80 days. Judging from the size of King Croc we’re not sure how the aquarium will house all the little ones (especially once they start growing!) but it will be fun to watch.

We wanted to find out a little more about this incredible animal, but as is the way with Google research, it turned into insane procrastination, as we wowed over some other huge animals at the Dubai Mall. Read on for some of Dubai’s biggest beasts…

King Croc – Dubai Mall

He weighs in at a whopping 750 kgs and is over five metres in length, that makes him the length of a small bus. When he was first spotted by locals in his homeland of Australia he measured 2.4m, dubbed a ‘problem’ by locals in the area (we can imagine why) he was moved to a protected environment in Queensland, Australia, before moving to Dubai and taking up his residence in the aquarium.

He is 40 years old, and although he is already one of the biggest crocs in the world, he is expected to keep growing over the next 50 years.

Dead Dino – Dubai Mall

We love how Dubai Mall has gone all Jurrasic on us. Have you been to check out the incredible skeleton of one long-necked, whip-tailed sauropod dinosaur that is over 155 million YEARS old? Nuts, right? This dino, which weighs the same as FIVE elephants, was discovered in the US in 2008 with virtually all bones fully intact. No other exhibit in the world is comparable to this one…and you can check it out for free at Dubai Mall!

Sand Tiger Sharks – Dubai Mall

Not only are these guys pretty big, but you can actually swim with them (if you’re in the mood to scare yourself silly). These beasts are the world’s ultimate underwater predator, weighing in at 340kg, and the proud owners of 300 razor-sharp teeth; if you’re feeling brave (or just plain crazy) you can jump into a 100million litre water tank and swim alongside the largest collection of Sand Tiger Sharks in the world.
