Media One Hotel, constantly adapting

The nice thing about Media One Hotel is that it keeps all it’s outlets; (Z:ONE), M deck, Cafe M, the now firmly established Q43 and two of it’s new hangouts Level 9 and the Crab Tavern fresh and fun.

Level 9 and Crab Tavern are both recently opened, and while they differ greatly, its fun to pit them against each other right!?

Getting In The Spirit

Should you leave the elevators and follow the arrow to Spirito, you will have chosen the Latin option. Think tapas and tequilas. We went for lunch, and it does a nice à la carte offering in addition to a salad buffet. The service is overdone, but that’s not really something to complain about, is it? The staff all seem Brazilian, they are keen to explain how to order food, how to eat it and that you can share it with friends. Erm, aren’t these things a given if you are going to a restaurant? It’s probably not the best choice for a business lunch. But they do give that option, and you will get in and out in an hour, after some very tasty food. I had the ALCATRA (roasted rump steak with green salsa) which was very nicely cooked. I imagine there would be a good atmosphere in the evening once you’ve had a few cocktails on board.

The Crab Tavern Option

You make have guess that Crab Tavern is predominately sea food. Again, it has a lunch time option and the service is excellent. It has a nice wine bar as well, so also a good choice in the evening time. There is an impressive view of Media City towards The Palm on entry and some great wooden interior. We were there on a Monday, and it was half full with people taking their work to lunch with them.

So, Which One Should You Go To?

What has always impressed me about Dubai is that restaurants manage to create unique and authentic atmosphere in hotels, in the desert, thousands of kilometers from where the cuisine is from. It would be going to far to say that Spirito is like eating in Brazil, but they have created a nice space there. In terms of price, there isn’t much to choose between them, roughly 200 AED, lunch for two people. Overall, if I had to choose, I would say the Crab Tavern is a better meal. I’d recommend going there for lunch, and evening drinks and nibbles across the corridor.
