Louvre Abu Dhabi Is Finally Opening And The Launch Weekend Is Going To Be Out Of This World

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has been eagerly anticipated from around the world for a long time. 

And with its announcement date finally set, for November 11, the opening week is going to be absolutely massive. 

With live performances, installations, workshops and a show-stopping light show, it will be a four-day extravaganza, that everyone can attend. 

Here’s everything you need to know. 

1. The art is going to be stunning (obvs)

Louvre Abu Dhabi is set to have masterpieces that’ll tell stories of contemporary art from centuries ago, as well as art work from other cultures.

Galleries, exhibitions, and year-long events have been set up to make it an interesting visit every single time.

2. There will be performance art to launch it

Aside from all the stand-still visual art work that’ll be previewed all over the museum, music and dance performances have been organised to bring the spectacular building to life from places all over the globe.

Musical acts including French singer and guitarist, Matthieu Chedid (known as -M-); Malian performer, Fatoumata Diawara; Lebanese jazz musician, Ibrahim Maalouf; Colombian performer, Tóto La Momposina and plenty more will be present to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime opening.

3. Your Instagram is about to be poppin’

Never mind all the beautiful objects you’re about to take photos of, but if you’re going to spam your followers, you might as well do it right. 

How Instagrammable is the location? Let alone the architecture, the ART, and the events.

4. There will be entertainment for all ages 

It’s not just for adults. 

There will be children’s tours ‘My First Visit To Louvre Abu Dhabi’ which are designed especially for kiddies, introducing art from the collections in simple and interesting ways. 

There’s also the Children’s Museum – with family focused exhibitions, designed to educate and inform children about art and design. It’s for children aged six to 12 years old, and will have your little ones inspired. 

There are also FREE workshops hosted in the Children’s Museum, that offer children the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the world’s most prestigious art gallery. 

5. The Louvre Abu Dhabi will exhibit a HUGE amount of pieces 

With more that 600 artworks from different cultures, the museum is set to emphasise exchange and shared human experiences through its 23 galleries.

6. There will be dance performances from spectacular choreographers 

Throughout the launch, there will be plenty of musical performances by talented musicians, and there will also be loads of dance pieces, by acclaimed choreographers. 

Within the galleries, there will be SURPRISE performances, choreographed by renowned Lucinda Childs – one of the great choreographers of the modern age. 

Dancer and choreographer, Myriam Gourfink will also be presenting her piece, Almasty, and Samoan-New Zealand dancer, choreographer, stage director and artist, Lemi Ponifasio will be showcasing some of his pieces. 

7. Tickets are just AED60

For the very reasonable price of AED60, you’ll get access to the Louvre Abu Dhabi in its entirety, and all the wonderful happenings this week. The only exception is the headline acts – which will incur additional costs, but all the dance performances, access to the art and tours are included in your AED60!
