Al Qudra Lakes: What’s Allowed And What’s Not

Avatar

The 10 hectare man-made Al Qudra Lakes are one of Dubai’s top free attractions.

Walking and camping are both popular activities in the area but an increasing amount of rubbish was causing damage to the environment and recently the Municipality stepped in to combat waste in the area.

It was originally thought both camping and barbecues were banned after new sign posts appeared at the lakes, however the Municipality has clarified rules on barbecues:

They are permitted as long as you follow the rules.

Don’t leave waste, use the correct materials

Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie, director of the Waste management Department at the Municipality told Gulf News that fires or barbecues are not banned, however fires should be made using barbecue pots, and not directly in the sand, which is damaging to the environment.

He went on to explain the best method is purchasing a barbecue stand from a supermarket or gas station, which can be discarded when you’re finished.

Fires in the sand could land you with an AED500 fine.

Anyone found camping in the area could also face an AED500 fine.
