Diwali is the Hindu religious festival of lights that’s celebrated every Autumn.

The Hindu population in the UAE is between 6% and 10% so if you notice an extra surge of lights in the coming days, this is why!

Diwali is celebrated on November 7 (this can vary) and people observe the holiday by lighting diya, (lamps) hanging lights, home decorations, fireworks, sweets, family meals, gifts and more.

There’s lots happening in the city over the coming days: head to Dubai Festival City, Al Seef and Dubai Creek to take part in the celebrations. Here’s what you need to know

Diwali diya lighting and fireworks at Dubai Creek on Wednesday, November 7

This is the first official diya lighting in the emirates – don’t miss it. There’ll also be fireworks from 8.30pm!

Bollywooda, bhangra performances and Dubai Police supercars at Al Seef

Al Seef is hosting ten days of celebrations including bhangra performances, a Guinness World Record attempt (for the most number of people lighting up LED lights) on November 10 AND an epic Dubai Police supercar show – how cool!

There’s also a special diwali market at Al Seef from November 1 to November 10 and fireworks November 8 from 8pm.

Dubai Festival City is celebrating with the musical Jai Ho

Dubai Festival City Mall is hosting a full musical show on November 7! The IMAGINE show is an energetic performance that includes water, fire, light and lasers all to the crowd favourite tune Jai Ho, by the legendary A.R. Rahman.
