Donald Trump win could lead to ‘clash of civilisations’, warns Dubai security official

Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, the deputy chairman of police and general security in Dubai, tweeted his feelings about a possible Donald Trump victory, over the weekend.

His tweet, when translated, reads: “If Trump beats Hillary, that means that the scenario of the clash of civilisations scenario coined by Samuel will come to light at the hands of the candidate and al-Baghdadi,” referencing ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and the late political scientist Samuel Phillips Huntington, who proposed that cultural and religious identities would be the future causes of war.

In a Republican debate on Thursday night, Mr Trump stood by his recent statement that “Islam hates the West”, saying he would not change to be “politically correct”. His continued comments about Islam come despite the fact that Trump has been doing business in the Middle East for a number of years, particularly in Dubai. He has lent his name to two high-profile Dubai golf course projects and an ongoing real estate development.
