There Are Changes To The Laws On Drivers Licenses And They Will Affect Most Drivers

The UAE has announced planned changes to laws for motorists on Sunday, including changes to the duration of drivers’ licenses.

The amendments to the 1995 laws include expat drivers renewing their license every five years, rather than the previous 10-year margin.

Emiratis will still be entitled to a 10-year license.

Existing licenses will not be affected by the changes – only when they’re submitted for renewal will the shorter duration be issued.

Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Interior, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, issued the ministerial decree, which reiterated laws on motorbikes, electric scooters, tricycles and quad bikes

Anyone driving a motorbike must have a proper license and permit.

Electric scooters and quad bikes are only allowed in the desert and require licenses too.
