Government Warning: Posts About Accidents Not Allowed
If you use any form of social media then you pretty much know what yesterday was like.
Emirates flight EK521 made an emergency landing at Dubai International Airport and almost immediately people were sharing images and videos of the fire that ripped through the aircraft.
While there were no fatalities reported amongst those on board, a brave UAE firefighter lost his life while containing the fire.
Post the incident, General Civil Aviation Authority has warned residents about posting images of aviation accidents online.
Doing so is punishable by law...
Sharing such practices is considered to be irresponsible and disrespectful to the victims, and is punishable under #UAE law.— GCAA UAE (@gcaa_uae) August 4, 2016
The same law applies to car accidents...
Last month, the UAE Ministry of Interior issued a warning against posting images or videos of traffic accidents online citing it as "irresponsible" and also stating that it "displays a lack of positive spirit among citizens".
