NEW LAW: People Found Guilt Of Minor Offenses In Dubai Will NOT Be Jailed

The UAE is taking a major stride in making changes to its penal code to ensure that punishments  fit the crime.

Minor offenses such as cursing, defamation, and bounced cheques will no longer result in jail time, according to ARN news.

Those found guilty of such minor offenses will NOT be jailed but just fined starting December 4

This announcement by the Dubai Public Prosecution will ease a backlog in cases and free up the courts to focus on more serious crimes.

Financial and legal experts in the UAE called the decision by Dubai Courts to issue fines instead of jail sentences a positive and progressive step.

Lawyers expect to receive details of the amended law by the end of the month.
