The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is happening this Friday from the early hours, until about midday, and with it comes some road closures surrounding one of Dubai’s most prestigious races.

Some roads will close on Thursday night at midnight, with others closing from 1.30am according to organisers.

Roads in Jumeirah and Al Sufouh are the most affected.

On Friday morning, runners will depart from Umm Suqeim Road near Madinat Jumeirah, running towards Al Sufouh before making a U-turn at the Westin Mina Seyahi traffic lights from 6am on Friday.

This means sections of Jumeirah Beach Road and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street will be closed.

Organisers said: “The Jumeirah Beach Road and King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street will be closed from Al Mehemal Street on Jumeirah Beach Road to the Al Naseem street signals next to the Westin Hotel. These roads will begin to close from around 1.30am and will be fully closed to all traffic from 5.30am.

Umm Suqeium Road will be closed in both directions from Al Wasl Road to the Madinat Jumeirah.

Al Wasl Road will be closed between Al Thanya Road, and Umm Suqeim Road (but will remain open in part – in the direction running towards Jumeirah) and will fully reopen around 2pm.

All areas are expected to open between 2-4pm on Friday, January 26.
