The car service Uber might possibly challenge and compete with regular taxis in Dubai as well as other car service providers, through the launch of their new low-cost fares called UberX.
Travis Kalanick, the CEO of Uber, told Arabian Business that UberX would be launched next month on a trial phase. No other information or price range has been revealed, although it promises to be cheaper than the regular taxis.
The UberX is to be inaugurated in March
It has been reported that these vehicles would be less ostentatious than the ones in Dubai now, like the UberSelect, XL or Black. Despite Dubai’s regulations on transportation that entails private car services to impose 30% higher prices than standard cabs, the company managed to sign an agreement with RTA that is in line with Dubai Vision 2021.
