10 Awesome FREE (Or Nearly Free) Things To Do In Dubai Right Now That You Need To Try

Avatar

People love to moan.

They love to go on and on, and on and on, and on and on about how expensive it is to live in Dubai.

And while sometimes they have a point (hellllo AED50 for a pint) there are actually PLENTY of free activities to keep you entertained.

Here are the top 10:

1. Get a free drink at the Lovin Dubai Christmas Jumper party at McGettigan’s this Thursday!

Starting off with a solid free drink, all you need to do is head to McGettigan’s JLT this Thursday from 6pm (afterwork drinkies anyone?) in a Christmas themed jumper.

We’ll be there with bells on (literally).

2. Spend an afternoon exploring a garden market

The Ripe Market and the Farmers Market by Baker & Spice are just two great (and free) garden markets in Dubai worth a visit.

3. Go for a run on a top-class running track

4. Take a trip to the shores of the Arabian Gulf

All beautifully kept and best of all completely FREE.

5. Ride an Abra through old Dubai

No one will argue with the AED1 charge for this unique old Dubai experience. Hop on the small wooden motorized boats at the Deira Old Souk Abra Station and cross the Dubai Creek to the Bur Dubai West Abra Station where a souk shopping experience awaits.

6. Roam the souks of old Dubai

Where mounds of silks, spices and incense await. You’ll have to pay if you want to take home a souvenir, and bear in mind, haggling is part of the fun.

7. Spend your day by the pool

When the weather heats up, you’ll need a pool to cool down.

And while most pools charge per day, Barasti Beach has a brand new pool and it’s free every day of the week.

8. Hit Al Qudra lakes

Head out to the desert to visit Al Qudra lakes, a man-made lake that’s now home to over 100 species of birds.

9. Watch the Dubai Fountains

You should not visit Dubai without taking the time to go and view the Dubai Fountains.

The world’s second largest choreographed fountain system, the fountains are located beneath the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Two birds, one stone eh?!

10. Get to know the history at Dubai Museum

The priciest on our list, you’ll need to pay just AED3 to visit the Dubai Museum in old Dubai, but trust us, it’s worth it.

Located by the Al Fahidi Historical District (and the Al Fahidi Fort) there are several other free museums in the area to keep you entertained for an entire days stroll.
