Five Things To Try This National Day To Truly Celebrate The Emirati Heritage

Avatar

There are just so many different things going on that it can be a little difficult deciding what to do this long weekend.

We thought it would be a good idea to truly immerse in the Emirati culture and heritage this weekend to celebrate the historical moment when the seven emirates came together to form the country we all love and call home.

Here are our top picks on things to do this long weekend:

1. Heritage celebration in Ajman

Ajman is celebrating National Day with a LOTS of activities in participation with government departments and the hospitality sector.

Celebrations take place at the Heritage Village at Marsa Ajman with a kids play area and a bazaar that has over 20 different shops offering handicrafts, traditional fashion and other products.

There will also be performances by traditional bands and Ajman Stud will be showcasing horses.

And there will also be a food festival featuring traditional dishes provided by families and restaurants from the emirate.

Location: Heritage Village, Marsa Ajman

Dates and timings: November 29 to December 4; 10AM onwards

2. Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain

The celebrations will take place in the central courtyard of Al Jahili Fort, where visitors can explore the history of the UAE since its foundation, through a heritage studio.

There will be a LOTTT of performances such as “Harbiya” and “Ayala” (if you don’t know what they are – all the more reason to go!).

There will also be lots of authentic UAE heritage cuisine, handicrafts and henna, and an outdoor concert by Emirati singer Harbi Al Ameri.

Location: Al Jahili Fort, Al Ain

Dates and timings: Saturday 2 December from 4.30PM to 10PM

3. Try some camel milk!

Camel milk has been an essential ingredient for centuries in UAE dining culture so why not try some this national day?

It is available in several major grocery stores chains or you can order some from Camelicious

4. Or a camel burger? Seven Sands is launching a new one

Seven Sands, home of Emirati cuisine with a modern twist, is launching a bunch of new items on their menu including a camel burger.

And for the healthy crowd it’s good because it has less cholesterol than red meat and is very rich in amino acids to help recover from workouts!

5. Al Ain Oasis

There is going to be a range of arts and crafts, as well as traditional cooking demonstrations and bazaar with hand-made and modern Emirati products.

Plus there will be horse riding, food trucks and a LOT more.
