Falafel is one of those rare pleasures in life: something that’s relatively healthy and also absolutely delicious. Crunchy, yet soft, filling and versatile it is quite simply whatever you want it to be. Whether you want it as the filling to a wrap, or as bitesized morsels of tastiness –

Here are places to grab a portion today!

Operation: Falafel

Undoubtedly the most famous place to get your falafel fix in Dubai, Operation: Falafel have branches in Al Safa’s Boxpark and JBR, and as the name would suggest – this chickpea goodness is their staple dish. While they serve it in many ways, we think it’s just fine as is, and tend to opt for 12 pieces at the incredibly wallet-friendly price of AED11.

JF Street Food

With branches in Mall of the Emirates, Business Bay, Dubai Marina and Deira City Centre, a portion of six falafel balls at JF Street Food is just AED8, and you can build your own ‘bowl’ for AED15 which includes salad toppings and dressings of your choice. We recommend the salsa for a fresh take on a Middle Eastern classic. Bonus? You can choose whether you want your falafel baked or fried – which is great for the health conscious among us.

Zaytoni

Located in Dubai Mall, the crispy falafel at Zaytonicomes in a large portion served with spiced tahini sauce and costs from AED29, or AED33 with the inclusion of hot and fresh Lebanese bread. This place is always full of peckish shoppers, and is the ideal place to kill any hunger cravings without feeling too full to brave the dressing room mirrors afterwards.

Reem Al Bawadi

A Dubai institution, Reem Al Bawadi know a thing or two about Middle Eastern fare, and with branches in Al Safa, Jumeirah 3, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina and Al Muteena, chances are you’re never far from one. Their hot and flavourful falafel is served in a portion of 10 dumplings and comes served with fresh tahini and pickled vegetables for AED35. Give it one trip and you’ll be hooked.

Falafel Farm

Located in Business Bay, Falafel Farm are yet another restaurant to specialise in this chickpea dish. While you can get the balls on their own, we recommend the ‘Halloumi Falafel’ sandwich (AED16), which is made up of roasted garlic hummus, shredded halloumi, roca, sundried tomato, toasted pine nuts, lemon tahina dressing and, of course, falafel. Oh so tasty. They also offer delivery via their website.

Almaz by Momo

One of the most eclectic and pretty Middle Eastern restaurants in our fair Emirate (that tiling!), Almaz by Momo serve up a plethora of classic dishes with a contemporary twist: and their falafel (AED37) is no exception. Comprised of chickpeas, spices, and cumin their take on it of course comes served with the trusty tahina sauce for dipping. There’s no messing with this one. Find them at Mall of the Emirates (within Harvey Nichols) and at JBR The Beach. Bring your camera to nab some Pinterest-worthy shots of the interiors while you dine.
