The Top Ten Places To Get A Killer Mexican Meal That Will Set Your World On Fire

Avatar

Are we the only ones who dream about finding (then eating) the perfect taco? No, didn’t think so. And when we’re not getting fired up about tacos, we’ve got burritos on the brain. If the thought of Mexican food makes you want to start your own Mariachi band and shout about it from the rooftops…then you’re going to love this article. Here’s the ten best places to pick up a killer Mexican meal right here in Dubai.

10. Fuego

Snuggled away in Souk Al Bahar, this contemporary Mexican restaurant and bar is the posh place to get your tacos…without paying a fortune. The food at Fuego looks so beautiful, you have to think twice about undoing the display with your fork…but you really must. The seafood used in all the dishes is amazing and the desserts taste even better than they look.

9. Maria Bonita Taco House

Want a no frills Mexican that is the real deal? Maria Bonita’s in Jumeriah Beach is the place for you. It’s super popular, the prices are very reasonable, the portions are huge and the dishes are as authentic as you’ll get. Be sure to order the corn tortillas and salsa, both are made on the premises and taste so fresh! The Tacos al Pastor are also standout.

8. La Tablita

If you want your enchiladas in a five-star setting then head to La Tablita at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights. A little pricier than some of the others on this list but worth every dirham. Be sure to enjoy some pre-dinner drinks and then opt for the enchiladas or tacos.

7. Taqado

If you want a burrito on-the-go, THIS is your place. With venues in MOE, Tecom, Kite Beach etc you can’t go wrong. These guys seriously know their stuff and with a little persuasion are always happy to give you a little extra guac and cheese. We recommend getting the Barbacao meat (shredded beef), half-half black beans/ peppers (you need to give a cheeky smile to get them to do this but they will), the spiciest salsa they do, lime rice, guac and cheese. Done.

6. Tortuga

Yes, it does delicious tacos (the lamb and steak ones in particular) as well as mouthwatering fajitas and nachos, but if you make the trip to Tortuga at Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah, then don’t miss out on the grilled dishes. The salmon, chicken and king prawns from ‘The Grill’ are the masterpieces amongst an array of brilliant Mexican dishes.

5. Rosa Mexicano

You can’t go to Rosa Mexicano (Dubai Mall or Mirdif City Centre) and not order the guacamole…it’s a crime. The friendly staff bring the avocados and bits to your table and make it in front of you. Choose from ‘single’ portion that serves 2 or 3 (AED 45) or the ‘double’ that serves 4 to 6 (AED 80). Once you’ve indulged on the best starter ever invented, opt for the chicken tacos or the pulled beef enchiladas.

4. Poco Loco

If you want your fish tacos with a beautiful view then Poco Loco at JBR will hit the spot. The fact all the food is delicious and served in beautiful dishes makes the experience even better. They’ve recently introduced a new menu and we suggest you fill up on the yellow fin tuna tiraditos or the beef burritos.

3. Claw BBQ

Ok it’s not technically a Mexican restaurant but the tacos and guacamole at Claw are so good, they give most Mexican eateries in Dubai a run for their money. We’ve always been big fans of the fish tacos (they even made our Dubai bucket list) but then Claw did something amazing a couple of months ago, they added pulled beef tacos to their specials menu. And they’re so good – they’ve been on the menu ever since and are now a bestseller. Get down to the restaurant and bar in Souk Al Bahar right now!

2. Loca

The guacamole here will blow your mind. If like us (before we’d been to Loca) you think nothing can be better than your original guacamole…you don’t know you’re born. Loca has taken the avocado dish to new heights and then some. Choose from five different flavours…we recommend the Frutas (avocado, papaya, strawberries, blackberries, pico de gallo and chili) and the Cangrejo (avocado, crab, habanero chilli, coriander, fresh lime and orange).

While you’re there (located at Souk Al Bahar and Jumeriah Beach Road), try out the new prawn ceviche and the Barbacoa Burrito (marinated lamb leg with ranchero and guacamole).

1. Maya

Sometimes it’s really tough to pick the number one slot when we’re doing these lists. This was not one of those times.

Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen and Lounge, located at the Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa, is so good…we had the number one slot planned before we even started making the list. The food here is so tasty…it would probably make the top ten of restaurants in Dubai…Mexican or otherwise. So, what makes it so good? Simple…EVERYTHING here is delicious. The starters, the mains, the desserts, the drinks, the brunch…EVERYTHING is brilliant. They don’t know how to mess up.

If you want to try as much as possible then head for the brunch (AED 350-500) and fill up on mains of rib-eye steak fajitas, lobster and marinated lamb chops. Or pop in any day for all of the above plus Mexican favourites like Burritos and quesadillas. Don’t leave without trying the Tres Leche (three milk) sponge cake and the churros that come with three different sauces…you’ll want to come back every day!
