The six best places to get brownies in Dubai

Avatar

Whether you like them firm on top and soft in the middle, or deliciously cakey all-over – there’s no denying that a good chocolate brownie is the stuff dreams are made of. Here are some of the best we’ve come across in Dubai…but you’ve been warned: reading this may lead to increased sugar consumption.

Brownie Blues

This homegrown bakery only make brownies, and offer 10 variations of the dense chocolatey treat, no less. With prices from AED 90 for a box of six (up to three flavours) you can choose from the likes of classic, red velvet, cookies’n’cream, date, peanut butter and rocky road – and that’s just for starters. They have a store in Jumeirah Plaza, but also offer an easy online ordering system so you can send them as gifts to friends. Hint hint.

Lime Tree Cafe

After a lot of asking around, the triple chocolate brownie served warm with chocolate sauce (AED 26) at Lime Tree Cafe, came up many times as people in Dubai’s favourite. There was eye-rolling, tummy rubbing and general swooning over the rich, chocolate dessert – so much so that we thought we had better remind ourselves what was so good about it. And the result? It’s everything. Head down to Jumeirah 1 and try it for yourself immediately.

Hummingbird Bakery

Hummingbird do more than red velvet cupcakes, you know. Their classic and chocolate frosted brownies ((AED 12 and AED 15, respectively) are worth skipping your usual rainbow-hued treat for. Thick, spongey and super sweet, they make the ideal accompaniment to a cup of coffee during a lengthy shopping trip in Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates – or you could share the calories with a friend over a catch-up at City Walk. Joke! We don’t share either.

The Brownie Box

Dubai’s Boxpark has some cool restaurants, even if it is a pain to get to. Overlook that slight inconvenience and make a special trip to try out The Brownie Box. As the name suggests, it offers an ever changing array of brownies, from AED 16 each. There are some made with rice krispies, topped with icing, and others dipped in coconut…the choices are endless. If you like your confectionary with a side of creativity then this is the hangout for you. And don’t forget – you’ve gotta try them all!

Magnolia Bakery

Do you think you could handle a marbled cream cheese brownie? Or how about a double fudge version (both AED 15)? This is the place that separates the dessert lightweights from the serious sugar connoisseur, be prepared to step up to the plate. Literally. They may be famed for their rich, banana pudding – but these baked delights are also the stuff of urban legend. This is the little bakery that was made famous during an episode of SATC all those years ago, so gather the gals and get scoffing. It’s chic.

Nola Eatery & Social

Yet another gem in JLT’s ever sparkly crown, Nola Eatery & Social is rapidly becoming a cool place to enjoy dinner and drinks. With an addictive vibe and cool New Orlean’s inspired décor – think moody lighting and rich colours – it’s a buzzy spot which also serves a mean dessert: the triple chocolate brownie, layered with chocolate mouse and heaped with vanilla ice cream (AED 30). While your mates may suggest popping here for a big meal, we’d advise kicking things off with dessert first. Just because you cannot risk being too full to experience this.
