Thanksgiving In Dubai: Nine all-American breakfasts you need to try

Avatar

If you can’t indulge in a huge (American-sized portion of course) of American breakfast around Thanksgiving, then when can you eh?

‘American’ food doesn’t typically have the same appeal as say, Lebanese or Thai, but you can’t deny that our friends in US know how to serve up a GREAT breakfast! What does an American breakfast entail you ask. Hash browns? Check. Sausages? Check. Streaky turkey bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes? Check, check and check.

The list goes on… and that’s the beauty of the state-side breakfast. Whether you’re craving a big, beautiful fry-up or some seriously sticky waffles, pancake stacks and Philly bagels, the USA has something just for you. Despite it’s distinctly European name, they’ve even mastered the paradise-in-food-form that is French toast.

So, pop on your baggiest outfit and head out for a full-on morning meal.

1. The Hamptons Café, Jumeirah

This place is a firm Lovin favourite, and the Hamptons ‘Big Breakfast’ keeps them in our good books. Indulge with their big hearty breakfast of eggs on homemade brioche toast (mmmm brioche), hickory-smoked beef bacon, sausages, tomatoes and beautifully sauteed mushrooms. Extra points for the interior, their mission to make you feel like you’re sitting in a little Hamptons beach café is easily achieved.

2. Circle Cafe, Dubai Mall

If it’s a bagel you’re craving, Circle Cafe is where you should be heading. They serve up fresh and delicious H&H bagels (bagel snobs from New York and elsewhere will know what we’re talking about) with some classic filling options. We recommend the smoked salmon bagel with lemon, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, capers and cream cheese. Wash it down with some fresh OJ and you’re good to go!

3. IHOP (various locations)

Okay, maybe IHOP gets a bad rap sometimes. But they really can do a decent breakfast. In fact, these guys put the hash brown stack on the map and their pancakes are seriously good. Still not impressed? Let’s see if this changes your mind…

CINN-A-STACK pancakes. A stack of four fluffy, buttermilk pancakes, with a sticky cinnamon roll filling, drizzled with rich cream cheese icing and finished with a whipped topping. Deliciously CINN-ful if you ask us.

4. Park Central, Park Place – Downtown

This is for the ones who like adventure on their breakfast plate. For a bit of everything try their ‘greasy spoon’ breakfast, made up of scrambled eggs, veal bacon, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, fried bread, roasted potatoes and brown sauce. Then, if you’ve still got room (unlikely), check out their crêpes; the ‘not a banana in my pocket’ crêpe is super sweet (in a good way) and ridiculously tasty… get ready to loosen that belt buckle!

5. 82 American Diner, Motor City

For a real 50s diner experience, head to the 82 American Diner out in Motor City. Come here for the breakfast burrito. As you’d expect, portions are standard American size (huge), but if you still have room, you’ve got to try and squeeze in a yummy shake. Made from real ice cream, they’re thick and creamy. Drool.

6. Shakespeare and Co. (various locations)

Not to be put off by the English name, these guys serve up a mean American breakfast to rival the greats. Think eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, beef bacon… the works. This spot has got a really neat design and cool comfy chairs – a great space to spend a few hours with a book to recover from your food coma. As well as your classic breakfasts, the restaurant does a mean croissant and tasty fresh pastries.

7. Kitchen6, Sheikh Zayed Road

Buttermilk pancakes, berry waffles and brioche French toast – Kitchen6 at JW Marriott Marquis has the indulgent American breakfast down to a fine art. All smothered in warm maple syrup, a treat-day breakfast here needs to be added to your to-do list. Do you really need a better excuse than Thanksgiving?

8. Fraiche Cafe and Bistro, JLT

A varied, experimental breakfast menu and the fact that they serve brekkie all day, every day, makes Fraiche our favourite kind of place. Go for the Maryland Eggs Benedict – poached eggs with salmon and sautéed spinach on a toasted English muffin topped with basil & lime hollandaise. They also serve amazing coffee, so make sure you fit one in before you leave.

9. Clinton Street Baking Company, Burj Views

Three words – breakfast for dinner. This is an actual thing and they have it on their menu! Try their ‘Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwich’ – scrambled egg, melted cheddar, homemade tomato jam and hash browns. If you’ve saved some space, squeeze in a classic blonde brownie for dessert – you can thank us later for this one.
