5 Times Google Maps Really Lets Motorists Down On Dubai Roads

Avatar

Ah Dubai roads, what a maze of busy arterials, rally-car style driving, looooong roads into the desert, and fast swerves to get the exit you need.

Thanks to Dubai’s extensive networks of roads, Google Maps can only just keep up, and sometimes, the nice lady directing us can’t even deal with the fast pace of Dubai.

Here are a few times she’s kind of let us down.

1. She can’t say Al Wasl Road…

She doesn’t even try really, she just spells it out.

“Turn left at Al W-A-S-L Road”… okay?

2. She gets VERY confused on Financial Centre Road

Poor dear, she can’t tell if you’re on the upper Dubai Mall level of the street, or the lower Boulevard level. So will occasionally ask you to turn left across a highway if you’re not careful…or you’ll end up on the way to Al Ain while trying to get onto Emaar Boulevard!

3. Everything in Business Bay

Business Bay is absolutely heaving with road works, and Google Maps lady doesn’t know where you can turn, what u-turns you can make, or what the heck is actually going on down there, so will just shout out random directions in hope that you’ll eventually be able to get out of the rabbit warren and find Al Khail Road!

4. Sheikh Zayed Road aka Abu Dhabi-Ghweifat International Highway?

On NO signs ANYWHERE, have we ever seen SZR called the Abu Dhabi-Ghweifat International Highway. Sure, it’s Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, the E11 all the way through, or Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road… or Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road.

But Abu Dhabi-Ghweifat?

What?

5. She tells you the exit or turn waaaay too late

Sometimes, you’ll be cruising down the highway, waiting for Google Maps to let you know when or where to exit, when suddenly, she’s asking you to take the exit that’s about 50m up ahead, and you’re five lanes across the road in the fast lane.

Thanks for the heads up!
