A pet store in JLT has been issued with a warning after selling puppies infected with a deadly virus.

Petholics in JLT Cluster B was issued with the warning after investigations by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre found the  of the shop selling puppies infected with parvovirus.

The same store was closed in January due to violations of freezone authority rules.

According to The National newspaper, it was brought to the authorities attention after puppies sold were being returned severely ill

One resident purchased a dachshund puppy from the store for AED5000, but returned the puppy after a vet diagnosed the puppy with the parvovirus.

The disease is a highly contagious and fatal virus which can damage the heart muscle and cause lifelong cardiac problems or kill the dog due to dehydration.

DMCC made a statement on the matter

“Due to the nature of its business, as a pre-requisite to holding its freezone licence, Petholics is required to demonstrate compliance with the regulatory requirements of all applicable government authorities, which Petholics has now done.

“DMCC does not tolerate non-compliance with its rules and regulations and will continue to monitor, as it does all member companies, to ensure compliance is upheld.”
