Incredible 9 Year Old Targets Dubai’s Fuel and Waste Consumption
‘Our school is very focused on making the world greener’
Incredible nine year old Dubai school girl Minhal Adnan Sami has won Toyota’s Engineering Inspiration Award. Shortlisted from an unbelievable 875,000 students down to just 30, Minhal travelled to Japan to collect her award.
Her brilliant idea is an ‘Ecofix car’ which, instead of running on petrol, runs on fruit and veg compost and even preserves rain water which can be used to water plants.
Minhal attends the Emirates International School in Jumeirah and it’s amazing to see such forward thinking from such a young age.
“There is a lot of pollution and litter and the greenery is decreasing.”
Pollution and waste are topics of popular debate in Dubai. In March, Dubai hosted the Bureau of Middle East Recycling and the Bureau’s president praised Dubai for it’s growing interest in recycling. He said that until recent years recycling had never been a concept here but the region has made excellent strides in identifying it and by putting plans in place for future protection of the environment.
But we can’t expect bureaus and businesses to recycle for us. It’s up to the individual person to make the difference. Has your building got adequate recycling in place? If so do you take care to dispose of your rubbish properly? It’s something worth thinking about. Let us know if you think there are adequate systems in place in your area.
