A woman has been arrested for using a fraudulent credit card to rack up AED21,000 worth of inflight purchases on an Emirates Airlines flight.

An issue warrant was issued against the traveler who bought the goods with an inactive credit card.

The woman was travelling from the United States to an Arab country via the UAE when she purchased the goods but the airline later found out that the card was inactive.

The airline tried contacting the woman through emails asking her to pay her debt but the woman has ignored all emails and calls

Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri said that the accused must have known the cards are swiped on a wireless hand-held card reader and transactions are made once the aircraft lands.

Director of the Anti-Economic Crimes Department, Colonel Salah Bu Osaiba said this is the third case regarding fraud using a inactive card this year, compared to seven last year.
