A Dubai Resident Divorced His Wife Via Whatsapp And Her Story Is So Heartbreaking

In a world where we are constantly glued to our mobile phones, there are some things that probably should not be discussed via messenger. Social media divorces are becoming something of a phenomenon. In the case of a Hyderabadi woman, her Dubai resident husband used Whatsapp messenger to perform the ‘Triple Talaq.’ Triple Talaq is the Muslim process of divorcing your spouse, it is recognised by the Sharia Law in which an individual will say ‘Talaq’ three times in order to execute an annulment.

This is one of three instances in the city alone

Sumaina Sharfi was devasted by the situation and filed a case with the local police in Hyderabad. She complained that her husband, Owais Talib, who she married in 2015, messaged her on WhatsApp – ‘Talaq Talaq Talaq’ on November 28 last year, signifying that their marriage had come to an end.

Sumaina’s experience was truly horrifying

“After my marriage, we got to know that Amma Jaan, my husband’s guardian, performed black magic in a ‘darbar’. Myself and my husband stayed in Dubai for a month. After we returned, they made me work like a servant and did not even give me proper food,” Sumaina said.

“Amma forced me to be surrogate to her by maintaining relations with her second husband. Even my husband didn’t refuse. When I refused, they tortured me and locked me in a room for as many as six days. My father came and took me home.”

“After that, I tried to talk to my husband so many times and solve the matter, but he didn’t take my calls. Soon thereafter, I received a message on my WhatsApp, stating ‘Talaq Talaq Talaq’,” Sumaina added.
