A Dubai Student Was Admitted To The Emergency Room For Using Henna

Henna painting is arguably one of the most beautiful arts of the Middle East However, for one Dubai student, beauty turned into a horror story. During a university event, a student began to feel a burning sensation following a henna application. She then washed it off but by then the damage had already been done. The student was taken to hospital where they applied a hydrocortisone ointment and she was given antihistamine tablets.

“The henna artist claims that she used red, not black henna. I thought it was dark red henna when she first started applying because I am aware of the dangers black henna could pose, especially when mixed with other chemical substances,” said the girl.

A week later, she was admitted into the emergency room as her reactions worsened.  She stated, ”I scrubbed most of the black off even though it was already blistering but I needed to, I was going crazy from the pain.”She added: “I had to receive two shots daily, I’m on daily antihistamine tablets and painkillers too.”

The use of black henna has been banned in many countries following not only bad reactions but severe burns. What makes henna black, is a chemical that also enhances the longevity of its wear.
