Address Downton hotel: Fire Update
Including Sheikh Mansour onsite with firefighters
A huge fire at the Address Downtown hotel last night looked like it might threaten the Burj Khalifa's spectacular firework display but things went off without issue.
The fire started outside the hotel on the 20th floor, spreading quickly upwards due to strong winds. Firefighters, who were joined by Sheikh Mansour, son of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had the fire out by 10.30pm.
The fire damaged only the external interface of the hotel. All residents of the hotel were evacuated, 14 adults are reported to have minor injuries and were treated by 50 nurses and 20 doctors. Guests were found rooms in alternative accommodation by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
