Amazon’s Takeover Of Souq Is Complete And People Have Mixed Feelings
It hasn’t been long since the Amazon acquisition of Souq.com completely took over.
In fact, the website takeover of Amazon took place on May 1. Residents woke up to a notification on the Souq.com homepage announcing the takeover and were redirected to Amazon.ae. If you didn’t know, Amazon acquired Souq two years back at a whopping US$580 million.
So the new website has been up-and-running for a continuous 26 days, but UAE residents have a mixed bag of opinions on the new website, service and other shenanigans.
The feedback has been pretty divided so far
The customer service is very pathetic. I am sure I won’t be continuing further with AmazonAE

Some have been nostalgic about Souq’s old interface

Twitter users shared their experience post the re-branding of Souq
As a simple example, a box of multigrain crackers that just a couple of months back cost me 10 AED to order on Souq is now priced at AED 26.9! For the same brand and same size. Costs AED 8.4 on Carrefour online.

Others are switching to other e-commerce platforms
Terrible search functionality, inflated prices, and feels half baked overall. Shopped at Noon for the first time because of this.

Some Dubai residents love the new site
Amazon’s team has directly responded to the feedback
Comments from customers on Amazon.ae’s pages are being responded to by the customer service team. At the moment, they’re taking in all the feedback they can get to ensure that the service is enhanced in the future.
It has barely been a month since the new website takeover took place, so let’s not fret- there’s definitely more time to improve.
