We won’t lie, there have been times we wished we could tag along with somebody just to take a trip somewhere fancy…but stealing someone’s passport for a vacation might just be taking it too far.

A 23-year-old Emirati woman has been apprehended for stealing her aunt’s passport to fly out to Turkey.

The incident happened in the month of May when the accused flew out of the Dubai International Airport to Turkey using an original passport.

She managed to get through passport control at DXB without raising any suspicion, however, was caught upon returning to the UAE.

The incident actually came to light when the said aunt realised her passport was missing.

“I went to the police and reported the loss of my passport. After checking the immigration e-records, they notified me that someone who flew out to Turkey had used my passport. Afterwards, it was discovered that my niece had stolen my passport and used it to travel. My niece told my family that she was going out with her friends that evening, but later she switched off her phone and didn’t return home,” the aunt testified as per Gulf News.

Detained after her return to the UAE

She presented the same passport to the immigration officers at the airport, who in turn flagged down the Dubai Police. They apprehended the woman and forwarded her to the Public Prosecution.

During a session before the Dubai Court of First Instance, the suspect pleaded guilty and admitted to stealing her aunt’s passport to travel to Turkey for a period of two weeks.

The final ruling will be given on August 12.
