‘Protecting Conflict-Affected Children and Youth Through Education in Northeast Colombia’

Dubai Cares alongside the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) aims to tackle four challenges:

  1. The reduce the expanding amount of out-of-school children
  2. The low transition rates from primary to secondary schools
  3. Highly- dispersed rural areas
  4. And the poor quality of education in the areas

The AED11 million allocated for the three-year programme will directly benefit around 15,000 children and young adults as well as 200 teachers.

Both the departments have been riven by armed conflict for many years, due to their strategic position on the Venezuelan border and the presence of guerilla and paramilitary organisations, who have fought for control over illicit crops, weapons, contraband and land. Much of the two departments’ population lives in poverty, and children and young people attending school are exposed to risks
