Dubai comes to the rescue to alleviate biscuit shortages in Britain

For those of you have British friends or indeed if you’re a Brit yourself, you should know very well how important a Custard Cream or a Bourbon is alongside any cup of tea.

You may have heard that last year storm Desmond rampaged through the UK destroying homes, shops and factories in its wake. What you may not be aware of though is that the storm also wrecked havoc on the Mc Vities factory (think digestive biscuits, ginger nuts and hobnobs) in Carlisle and that biscuit production has been put on hold ever since causing a shortage of biccies in the British Isle and a steadily rising level of panic amongst the Brits who, as a result, are not getting their daily biccie fix.

Well, our heroes over in Emirates know exactly how vital a good biccie is with a cup of tea and came to a speedy rescue by flying out two 777 Emirates SkyCargo planes from Johannesburg in South Africa, via Dubai  and on to Doncaster Sheffield Airport filled to the brim with 90,000kg worth of yummy yummy biscuits. And not only that, it was actually the first time an Emirates plane has ever landed in Doncaster Sheffield – all in the name of tea and biscuits. Hear Hear Emirates, you legends.

“Thanks to this new relationship the Great British public have been able to enjoy a biscuit with their cuppa. We were delighted to welcome Emirates to Doncaster Sheffield Airport. This new relationship shows that our cargo operations are going from strength to strength and our reputation for handling cargo flights from around the globe is growing.”

Dayle Hauxwell, cargo manager at Doncaster Airport
