This Incredible Dubai Solar Park Is An AED600 Billion Record Breaker

Avatar

Deemed to be the largest single-site solar farm in the world, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, is now in its 8th year and already features several world records, including ‘the tallest solar tower in the world’ at 260 metres. The 4th phase, which was completed in April, is said to provide clean energy for 320,000 residences and will reduce 1.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually!

Investing towards a brighter future

While DEWA (Dubai Energy and Water Authority) had told CNN in an interview that the “…AED50 billion investment could power as many as 1.3 million homes…”, it is predicted that by 2050, the UAE aims to invest AED600 billion to meet the growing energy demand and ensure the sustainable growth of the country’s economy.

This project has won multiple awards

Having won the ‘Best Sustainable Project of the Year’ award in 2014, the first in the region, DEWA has won numerous other accolades as well. DEWA has two simple strategies, the UAE Energy Strategy and Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.

The former aims to develop an energy mix that combines renewable, nuclear and clean energy sources to balance economic requirements and environmental goals and the latter looks at five main pillars infrastructure, legislation, funding, building capacities and skills, and having an environmentally friendly energy mix.

On the fast track to reach its goal!

While it is said that the solar park will take three times as long to finish as the Burj Khalifa, DEWA has laid insurance that they are on track and what was once considered to be a very ambitious project (imagine a huuuuuuuge solar park in the middle of the desert!!!) will soon be a reality for UAE residents and will place UAE on the global forefront for sustainable development!
