Every Dubai Taxi You Ride In Will Now Be Monitored By A Surveillance Camera
Each and every ride you hop into, here in Dubai, will have surveillance cameras as announced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday.
The initiative was done so drivers’ conduct could be monitored and to contribute to the goal of ‘People Happiness’ and the Smart City initiative- both of which the RTA have taken a step towards.
You might have already noticed the fleet of cabs with cameras around, but these cameras only switch on once it detects that a customer has sat in.

Although the RTA has put it in place for the customers’s safety and happiness, having surveillance cameras inside RTA taxis also mean positive things for the taxi drivers since there will be valid proof for both sides, in cases of false accusations or misunderstandings.
The Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, Khaled Al Awadi, says the cameras were “have been installed in 10,684 taxis comprising the entire taxi fleet in Dubai. The move aims to ensure the compliance of taxi drivers with the ethical and professional principles of their business. It also prompts them to stick to exemplary attitudes when dealing with taxi riders.”
