Dubai’s Population Increases By A Staggering 459% Thanks To Tourists

It’s no surprise that tourism is a huge industry in Dubai but until now we really had no idea just how big an influence tourists have on the city.

Thanks to a report made by On The Go Tours, using information from the World Economic Forum and MasterCardGlobal Destination Index, we can see exactly how a city’s population grows with tourist visits each year.

So, which city’s populations grow the most due to tourism?

Dubai has a native population of a rather modest 2.7 million, small in comparison to other popular tourist spots such as London which has a population of 8.7 million people.

Thanks to an influx of 15.3 million visitors each year, Dubai’s population grows by a staggering 459%.

That’s over five tourists for each resident.

Dubai’s population growth came third

First was Paris which sees an increase of 704% in its population thanks to tourists, followed by Kuala Lumpur which enjoys a 595% increase in it’s population.

Following Dubai were Milan, Barcelona, Prague, Vienna and Amsterdam, all popular European cities.

These figures are good news as the World Economic Forum has found that for every 30 new tourists to a destination, one new job is created.

Further increases in tourism in Dubai is expected with the goal of welcoming 20 million visitors by the year 2020 becoming more and more of a reality.
