It has no queues, no traffic and no busy stores…but maybe not for long.

DWC Airport has announced it received nearly double the passenger-traffic in 2016, up 84.5% from 2015.

Dubai Airports released the figures this week, stating it’s likely the jump is thanks to UAE carrier, FlyDubai operating 41 flights on average per week out of the hub.

DWC has become appealing to UAE residents due to its lack of queues and traffic

Although the numbers are small in comparison to DXB, this is set to change

The airport hosted 850,633 passengers in 2016, compared to 461,063 in 2015; though this is a fraction of the 83,654,250 passing through DXB airport.

DWC is served by 27 passenger carriers, operating an average of 108 flights per week to 44 international destinations.

The number is set to further increase as additional carriers relocate services to the southern airport, including Emirates Airline

The airport expansion means it will be able to accommodate 26 million passengers by next year

“Considering the unique proposition DWC offers to airlines in terms of easy availability of slots, quick turn-around times, quick transit times though the airport for passengers and access to new catchment area – not to forget the expansion project underway that will more than quadruple its capacity to 26 million passengers by next year – we expect the growth trend to continue this year, and beyond.”
