HRH Princess Haya Is Ensuring That Dubai Is At The Forefront Of International Humanitarian Aid And This Is How She Does It

Avatar

UN Messenger of Peace and Chairperson of International Humanitarian City HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai has put a spotlight on Dubai for it’s impressive commitment to providing and facilitating global aid.

HRH Princess Haya is ensuring that Dubai is at the forefront of any global crisis or emergency and prepared to distribute aid and relief when most needed.

Dubai has created an International Humanitarian City

Under the leadership of HRH Princess Haya the International Humanitarian City (IHC) is a “global humanitarian and aid hub, which aims to facilitate aid and development efforts by providing local and international humanitarian actors with facilities and services specifically designed to meet their needs.”

The IHC is home to a number of UN organisations, charities and international non-governmental organisations who are able to store emergency supplies in large warehouses.

Supplies such as first aid, pharmaceuticals, tents, trucks and food are all found at the IHC.

By storing all of these life saving supplies in one space the IHC team can organise and facilitate a relief drop to an area which needs it in a time efficient manner.

The location of IHC is also very important

Located near the airport and port they are able to move from the sea to the air in only seven minutes.

Due to their unique location they are able to distribute aid to nearly anywhere in the world in eight hours or less.

Coordinating with all the IHC members they respond quickly and efficiently to any global crisis, be it a natural disaster or a man made emergency.

The work they have done has provided relief to those most in need at times of crisis

Some recent aid dispatched include airlifts to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Sierra Leone and Haiti.

Responding to natural disasters such as earthquakes, mudslides, hurricanes and drought and also providing aid to refugees and those caught in areas of conflict the IHC provide relief without political agenda.

With the support of her husband HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of Dubai and Ruler of Dubai and the government of the UAE, HRH Princess Haya is able to continue expanding and improving the distribution of global aid.

Now Dubai is looking to improve global aid distribution even further

By looking at aid inventory across the world and linking these inventories together they are aiming to create a global system of aid distribution.

A Former UN logistics expert will lead the development in order to ensure the most time efficient distribution of aid can be provided at a time of crisis.
