The Red Flag Flying On Dubai’s Beaches Has A Specific Explanation

Avatar

You may have seen a red flag in certain beaches in Dubai, and for those of you who are unfamiliar with what it represents (you are not alone). Here’s the explanation as to what its for and what you should (or shouldn’t do) when you see it:

The Dubai Police tweeted on the matter today, advising beachgoers not to swim if the red flag is intact

The red flag is raised when an area is too unsafe to swim in

This is due to sometimes horrible weather conditions that could be dangerous to you, such as: intensely hot sun and strong currents or when it warns you not to cross deeper areas (that could lead to drowning).

Residents are advised not to ignore these signs for your own safety.

The cases of drowning in Dubai have reduced by 79.31% this year alone

The city’s direction and safety in warning beachgoers and residents has effectively reduced the cases of drowning from 29 casualties last year to only nine this year.
