If you’re a budding photographer or an art/photography aficionado or just keen on learning new things, the GPP Photo Week has been open to all exhibitions and workshops. With two days left to the event, there’s still a lot you can see and experience by visiting the event today and day after.

The GPP (Gulf Photo Plus) Photo Week 2017, is the region’s longest-running festival for photography. This year, located at Al Serkal Avenue, the nine-day-event is inclusive of exhibitions, special events, photo walks, workshops led by leading lensmen and artists and many more.

The annual event aims to challenge and inspire other photographers.

In a video interview about this year’s event, photographer Gregory Heisler mentioned that the exhibition is different from other exhibits of its kind due to its “The only one in the region. Having people come from all over the place, creating a motivated environment for teachers and students alike”.

Learn and be inspired like we did yesterday at Nikon School’s Travel & Street Portrait workshop

Yesterday, we had the privilege of attending Subodh Shetty’s 3-6pm seminar on Travel & Street Portraits. Shetty introduced the importance of photography by a slideshow of the most historic moments taken in pictures, from the smallest scale to the most historic. It evoked a grasp of how photos have managed to show the relationship between the photographer and the subject. The photographer being the storyteller.

In the workshop, Shetty illustrated the step-by-steps of the technical aspects, composition as well as the process in photography. A lot of basic principles were reinstated, through the exhibit of his captures as examples, with beautiful photos taken in India, Sri Lanka and some other parts of Asia.

“The reason I do photography is that it is the window to look outward and a mirror to look inward.”

The photographer mentioned how photography had helped overcome one of his biggest weaknesses- his shyness.

Imagine how much more you could learn from all the other exhibitors and guest speakers in the next two days.
