This Cafe Is Encouraging People To Sponsor A Coffee For A Person In Need
Blends & Brews coffee shop, a hidden gem in Rashid Hospital, started the initiative to allow its customers not just to pay for their coffee, but for someone else’s too. This initiative started way before the UAE’s theme of Year of Giving was introduced this year.
In August 2015, Gulf News reported that all 19 of Blends and Brews branches had applied this method of offering anonymous sponsorships for low- waged workers to enjoy a cup of coffee.
Thumbay group founder initiated the idea
A shop manager told Gulf News a lot of the times there are customers who cannot afford to buy a cup of coffee and end up leaving. The shop staff explain to these people that they can have a cup of coffee paid for by other people, so they get to at least have a drink before leaving.
Rashid Hospital treats a lot of labourers and low-waged workers
The professionals, doctors and regular visitors often sponsor coffees, as the hospital receives a lot of low-waged workers who are not able to afford it.
They pay Dhs15 per cup and instead of receipts, stickers with codes are posted on a wall, allowing people to redeem it
More than 2,000 sponsored cups across the coffee shop’s branches has been given to people in need since its launch. Through the simplicity of the act, one is able to change another’s mood or sprits.
