This Dubai-Based Indian Businessman Pays Off The Debts of 132 Prisoners Who Have Now Been Released

Firoz Merchant, an Indian businessman of jewellery company Pure Gold Jewellers, has aided in the release over 130 prisoners from Ajman’s central jail. 

Since 2011, Merchant has helped  around 4,000 prisoners be released and sent back to their home and families, spending over AED3.5 million dirhams. Apart from being a successful entrepreneur, Firoz is a philanthropist in every essence.

On Wednesday, Merchant paid off AED 150,000 in the debts of the 132 prisoners in Ajman Central Jail. Some of the prisoners Merchant has helped release were from Yemen, Ghana, Nepal, Philippines and other neighbouring countries to his homeland.

Merchant says that those prisoners are not real criminals

“These people are unfortunate victims of circumstances and are not real criminals. They have ended up in jail because of debt-related cases and I want to do my best to send them back to their families,” Merchant told Gulf News.
