Virgin Radio Dubai presenter, Maz Hakim, posted a touching statement on IG, that speaks in volumes to the expat community. Hakim is known for being part of the ‘Maz and James Live’ segment on the 104.4 FM channel.
The Afghani-native who has lived most of her life in Australia, packed up five years ago to start something new. A notion, risk and feat that most expats know.
Commemorating her fifth year in the city, she shared an Instagram post detailing her move and the initial nerves that came with it.
The caption is pretty darn inspiring
“Today I got my 5 year anniversary award for Virgin ☺️Like most people in Dubai, i moved on my own 5 years ago and put my entire life in a suitcase. It was never really the norm for Afghan girls to move overseas on their own, but I’m so grateful to my parents for allowing me the opportunity to broaden my mind and write more colourful chapters in this book called life. I’m always trying to push forward and improve and do better and be better and stay busy.”
“Pursue your passion- your time will come!”
Hakim ended her beautifully written accolade to her 5th year working at Virgin by advising people to follow their dreams.
I made a decision to pursue my passion and take my chances when I got into radio 9 years ago and so far it has worked out for me. Pursue your passion! I’ve made so many mistakes on the way and will continue to make them, but that’s what makes us humans right? I have an incredibly supportive fun team who I lean on and learn from. Thank you for coming on this journey with me, here’s to the future. Love life! If you are not doing something you love, here’s some words from Bollywood’s Gully Boy: Apna time ayega! (Translation: your time will come!)
