Drivers With Too Many Black Points Are Set To Be In For Community Service Thanks To A New Law

Avatar

A new law could mean drivers that have exceeded 24 black points will be slapped with some community service.

The Federal Traffic Council is recommending a new system where drivers will be required to complete community service, or attend a driving school if they exceed 24 black points.

The chief of Federal Traffic Council, Major General Mohamed Saif Al Zafin said the reason behind the decision, is that fines may not be adequate deterrent for some drivers in the UAE; so compulsory community service may offer more incentive to follow the rules.

The changes may offer alternatives to those with suspended licences, as at present, drivers are required to forfeit their licence once they reach 24 black points.

The community service and drivers’ school, will enable drivers to earn points back, with a maximum of eight being earned back per year.
