One Twitter User Slandered Dubai By Saying It Doesn’t Have Any Women’s Rights And Got SCHOOLED Instantly
To say that Dubai (more specifically the UAE) has no women’s rights is a sentence so preposterous, it’s almost laughable.
To the ignorant who doesn’t know any better, we drive here, and no, we don’t have to cover up.
The newest generation of women in our country are not only respected but they’re hella empowered and feel safe and secured.
We aren’t saying Dubai is perfect, no city is! But the UAE’s commitment towards women’s rights is definitely praise-worthy.
FACTS
- The UAE Cabinet recently approved a bill that guarantees equal pay for men and women in the workforce
- Female employees in the public sector are entitled to a three-month maternity leave
- 23 percent of the total ministers in the new cabinet are women
- The participation of women in the UAE Cabinet is amongst the highest in the world
- The UAE passed a law in 2012 calling for mandatory female representation on all boards of government corporations and bodies, becoming the first Arab country to implement such a progressive law
So, naturally, when a dude on Twitter said that ‘Dubai has everything but women’s rights,” women came out in full force to school the guy and make him regret this flippant remark.

I left my office in Dubai at 10 pm yesterday and walked the half a km empty stretch to the metro station and didn’t once think I should walk faster or look behind me. In Delhi, at that hour, it would be ‘asking for trouble’. Safety is also a woman’s right.
