10 Tips For Keeping Your Car Safe During Dubai’s Summer Heat
It’s getting hot out there folks! And even without the heat, Dubai’s roads can be incredibly dangerous. So as the temperature increases, it’s even more important to take care of your cars. From tires to engine oil, we’ve compiled a list of the top things you need to keep an eye on to protect yourself as well as keep cool in the excruciating heat!
1. Coolant
It’s important to keep cool during the summer, keep tabs on your coolant fluid as well as inspecting the state of the hoses and the coolant reservoir. Leaks are a nightmare but if you spot them in time they are easily resolved!
2. Wipers
Wipers can fall victim to heat, rubber damage can create streaks on your windshield – when you’re wiping off all that dust, and it can affect your vision while you’re driving.
3. Shades
These are absolute life-savers, unless you’re lucky enough to have blackout tints, your car can basically become an oven. Block out the sun with window and windshield protectors, it really makes a difference.
4. Tyre Pressure
Over pumping your tires can cause them to pop, the heat causes your tires to expand which puts pressure on the tires. Also, if you’re planning on filling them up – driving around can cause the tires to expand too, so the best time to do so is straight from home.
5. Tyre Age
Tires wear out over time, especially on the scorching roads, if you can’t remember the last time you had them changed – it’s definitely time!
6. Crack Open the Windows
Heat can cause your interior to start to melt, and with that, the toxic fumes from the plastic or the paint can emit. Cracking open your windows lets the fumes escape so you don’t breath in any nasty gases.
7. Battery Checks
One of the main causes of battery troubles is high heat, the heat can cause terminals and cables to corrode. Batteries are also prone to losing electrolytes as the heat can make them evaporate, check, check, check!
8. Engine Oil
Engine oil protects the engine, it keeps it lubricated, however, heat can cause the oil to lose viscosity and fine metal particles build up – this increases the heat with friction that can damage your engine, badly!
9. Air Filter
The air filter keeps sand and dust out of your car (and your lungs) keeping it clean means you’ll breathe in fresh, filtered and dust-free air!
10. Open the Doors
Sometimes braving a drive in the heat can seem like way too much of a challenge. If you’ve left your car in the heat for a couple of days, at least open and close the doors. The rubber seal can melt and you’ll end up with a sticky mess!
