The 5 Worst Types Of People You Deal With When Selling Second Hand Stuff

Avatar

Selling second-hand goods in the UAE is a special kind of experience. With the revolving door of expats coming and going, there are always all kinds of things for sale, and wanted to buy.

And there are some special kinds of characters in the Dubizzle/flea market world that make selling second-hand goods all the more painful.

1 The low-baller

You know the one, who offers a pitiful amount for near-new stuff. You advertise it for AED1,000 (the retail price is 5k), they’re offering AED100. Not a chance buddy.

Sometimes they’ll even come all the way to your house to ‘buy’ it, only to undercut the price. I’d rather give it away…

2 The Tinder guy

We’re not really sure if this guy is actually buying anything or just looking for dates. He’s the one who messages you for a chit-chat before asking you out – and seems to have no interest in actually buying your stuff.

3 The time-waster

The one that engages in a huge amount of talk about the products – the ins and outs, the model number, the capacity, the colour, the year model, the warranty, the add-ons…calm down mate, it’s just a blender. And they don’t even want it in the end anyway.

4 Lol wut?

There’s always one – you don’t really know what’s happening or what’s going on with them. They’re messaging you about a couch when you’ve only advertised a wardrobe.

They’re asking if you want to buy their car, you’ve no clue what communication is going on or what they are actually looking for.

5 The no-show

The one who makes all the arrangements to come and view an item, or pick something up on a Friday no less, only to fall off the face of the earth.

There’s nothing more irritating than wasting your weekend waiting at home for someone to show up and they never do.
