7 Reality Checks We All Experience When We Leave Dubai

Avatar

Living in the UAE affords a certain style of living, that not all countries are accustomed to.

Thus, going home for a visit, or to relocate, can be a real shock to the system.

Confusion, frustration and trepidation can strike us when we’re out of Dubai, and can shock us when we least expect it.

What do you mean, I have to pump my own petrol?!

No no, where’s the man to do it for me?

There’s no valet? What kind of hospital/mall/cafe is this?

Um, where do I even park.

You DON’T deliver groceries? So I have to physically go to a shop and see people?!

Not…not even water? What about takeaway? I can’t get McDonald’s delivered!?

You want HOW MUCH money for a shawarma?

(or curry or hummus) I’m sorry, was that in dollars or dirhams?

I’m sorry…what is “income tax”?

Just no.

Where is all the table service…?
“I have to order at the COUNTER?!”

But where are the waiters? Why do I have to take this buzzer? Why don’t they just bring me my food?

Petrol costs HOW MUCH!?

Wait…what? Is that in dollars or dirhams? Forget it, I’ll just walk.
