Fancy a day out of Dubai and into the capital? Then a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a must on your list of things to do.

The mosque was the brainchild of the late president, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahya and his final resting place is on the grounds. The largest mosque in the UAE, it was constructed from 1996 to 2007.

The design and construction of the building has drawn inspiration and workmanship from all over the world, using artisans and materials from countries including Italy, Germany, India, Morocco, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Malaysia, China and the United Kingdom.

The Grand Mosque is the key place of worship for Friday prayers and Eid (when it can expect more than 40,000 people), so it might be worth avoiding those times if you're making more of a tourist visit!

If you haven't been to the mosque yet or it's been a while since your last visit, here's a reminder of the building's beauty. We've chosen our 28 favourite Instagram pictures...
