This Dubai Based Woman Actually RAN The 50km Al Qudra Cycle Track

We mentioned Al Qudra earlier this week as the perfect chill spot. However, if you’re anything like Dr Tamara Ghazi, you’re probably not too keen on staying still. Along with some friends, Dr. Ghazi ran the 50km Al Qudra loop last weekend.

Yep. Ran.

The group completed the seriously impressive run as a training run for an ultra-marathon taking place on 4 June in South Africa, called The Comrades marathon.

And, if you thought 50km was a little extreme, the next one is 86km.

She has attracted regional attention with 15 people from Dubai enrolling in the Durban to Pietermaritzburg marathon. The group has taken on some extensive training, completing Jab Al Jais – only the highest peak in the UAE, twice. They’ve also ran from The Greens to Dubai Mall, think about that next time you order from the shop downstairs!

“We were amazed at how much more pedestrian friendly dubai has become, with the beach track, the canal and many other beautiful sights along the way! Especially exciting for me since I’ve spent a lot of my younger years here and watched the city develop!” Dr Ghazi said.

The whole loop took 5 1/2 hours

Speaking about the Al Qudra run, Dr Ghazi said, “We set off as 5 people, 4 of us running and one support cyclist and were met along the way by friends on bikes, cars and runners the last leg of the way! It was incredible to say the least as we started off at 3:30am under a star filled sky and slowly watched the sun rise over the desert, catching Onyx hop across the sand. Whenever I was straining mentally, some cyclist would rock up behind us with so much encouragement and support, it kept us going. 5 and a half hours later we were back to where we started but our team grew from 5 to 20.”

So, now we’re a little jealous. Who’s up for a run this weekend?
