Halima Is The First Hijabi Ever To Rock A Burkini On This Iconic Sports Illustrated Cover

Avatar

Halima Aden is giving us major feels this morning, as photos or her rocking a hijab on the front cover of Sports Illustrated cover have been revealed.

Huge for the community, this is the first time a hijabi has ever appeared on the front cover of the American sports magazine, but it’s another small step for Halima as she continues to break down glass walls and represent hijabi women on a small stage.

One small step for Halima, one big step for the hijabi community…

From Kanye West to multiple Vogue Arabia covers

Halima Aden first grabbed headlines for being the first to appear in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant rocking a hijab and from there her career skyrocketed. She drew the attention of Mr Kanye West himself, was snapped up to appear in his highly-publicized Yeezy catwalk show, and most recently graced the cover of Vogue Arabia with not one but two hijabi models, Ikram Abdi Omar and Amina Adan.

The images were shot in Kenya by YuTsai who posted this iconic burkini pic… another first for the magazine

“What a honor to be part of this history making moment” – YuTsai

Halima is championing the cause for women everywhere to be themselves

“Don’t change yourself .. Change the GAME!! Ladies anything is possible!!! Being in Sports Illustrated is so much bigger than me. It’s sending a message to my community and the world that women of all different backgrounds, looks, upbringings… can stand together and be celebrated.”
