Helicopter crashes into the sea at JBR Beach

A small gyrocopter is believed to have crashed into the sea near JBR Beach, around 20-metres away from the Skydive Dubai runway, 150 metres out to sea, opposite the The Ritz-Carlton hotel. 

Bystanders reported seeing an air ambulance, two coastguard boats and divers who could be looking for the pilot. One local said “I saw the crash and i’m pretty sure it was a Skydive Dubai helicopter.” But it turns out it was actually a gyrocopter taking part in the World Air Games.

“For unknown reasons the gyrocopter fell into the water at Skydive Dubai Palm Dropzone,” the World Air Games Organising Committee said in a statement.

It’s believed the pilot was injured.
