5 Creative Hubs That Will Get Your Artistic Juices Flowing

Looking for a way to spend the weekend that doesn’t involve shopping or eating? We’ve got some ideas. Here are some spots in the city that will help you channel your inner Picasso. Whether you choose to go by yourself or in a group, we assure you it’s a lot of fun.

1. Café Céramique, Town Centre (04 344 7331)

This part café, part studio welcomes all art enthusiasts to pick up a paintbrush and a piece of ceramic to start creating something beautiful. With all materials (including brushes, ceramics, paints and sponges) provided, all you really need to is think of a design and have some fun with colours.

Price: varies according to the ceramic piece chosen.

2. The Jam Jar, Al Serkal Avenue (04 341 7303)

What better way to get creative than in a DIY art studio? Around since 2005, this space is equppied with easels, paints and various other art supplies to help you create a stunning piece. If you’re not sure where to begin, take inspiration from the pieces sitting around.

3. We Love Art, The Med, Media One Hotel (056 769 1995)

They describe themselves as a community of people that enjoy creating art in a social setting. The best part is you don’t need to be a pro to join in. Everyone is welcome provided you’re interested in art. They also have a Paint & Grape night (works well for those who’d like a sip between strokes).

4. Painting classes at DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates (04 341 4777)

For those who love the thought of painting, but would like a bit of help from the pros…there’s a place for you too. The community centre offers various painting classes that cater to all levels. Students will learn about the different techniques used while painting, how to mix colours and how to work with different mediums.

5. Painting classes at Dubai International Art Centre, Jumeirah (04 344 4398)

Dubai’s oldest art centre offers several classes for painters (new or experienced) including oil painting, watercolour, acrylic and pure palette knife painting. Each session is around two to three hours long and held either once or several times a week.
