With So Many Restaurants And Bars Closing Residents Need To Get Behind The Brands They Love

Avatar

The Agency at Madinat, 360, Societe, China Grill, Cocktail Kitchen, Firebird Diner, and now Hakkasan has announced it’s closing.

It feels like another restaurant announces it will be closing every week.

A huge amount have closed down in the past 12 months – with more to come.

Some have closed for good, others for renovations or relocations and some just rebrand.

And why are they closing?

Thriving restaurants don’t shut up shop. Lucrative business owners don’t just decide to close their bars and restaurants.

These decisions are tough, and normally it’s the end of a long line of attempts to keep businesses afloat. So if restos simply can’t make ends meet, they’ll have to shut down, or get bought out.

Dubai is a highly competitive hospitality industry

It feels like a glam new venue opens every week during the high season, with many looking to push their product.

Dining hotspots like DIFC, JBR, CityWalk, La Mer and more are all hotly contested real estate, and sometimes we’re overwhelmed for choice.

And let’s be honest, we in Dubai – have short attention spans. The novelty of these pubs, clubs and restaurants wears off quickly, so those places jam-packed one month could be empty the next.

So we need to put our money where our mouth is

And spend our dirhams on the stuff that counts. If you love that little eatery on the corner – go there and spend your money.

If you’re gutted Loca 2.0 closed down (like me) then go to the original in Jumeirah Marina Resort and support the one that’s still open.

If you love the owner-run family feel of Pitfire Pizza in JLT, buy up big next pizza party.

If you’d be devastated to hear of a funky cafe like Projeto Acai closing up shop, get down then and have brekky.

Don’t let these fabulous places close down – they need us to survive, and it’s important we all show support through spending, word of mouth and supporting them.
