Shisha, hookah, hubbly bubbly…whatever you call it, Dubai has it. The traditional Middle Eastern water pipe used for smoking flavoured tobacco is a prominent part of most evening or post dinner gatherings in the city. From the classic to the ice and the fruit ones, these venues offer it all!

1. The Courtyard, Manzil Downtown Dubai (04 428 5888)

You know you’re a shisha enthusiast when the 'no reservations policy' doesn't bother you and you are ready to wait for your table at this popular Downtown venue (there are ways to work around it though, shhh we didn't say a thing). A second visit is all it takes to realise how many people keep coming back for the 'smooth' shisha. Prices start from AED 90.

2. Cello Café and Restaurant, Sh Zayed Road (04 388 8151)

No messing with this lot, they take their shisha very seriously! The pictures are proof enough. Prices start from AED 59 and the restaurant is open 24 hours. Yes! 24 HOURS.

3. Koubba Bar, Jumeirah Al Qasr, Madinat Jumeirah (04 432 3232)

The USP: the venue overlooks Madinat Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab. Shisha is served only on the terrace and prices start from AED 95. It stays open until 2am on weekdays and until 3am on Thursdays and Fridays.

5. Siddhartha, Grosvenor House Dubai, Dubai Marina (04 317 6000)

If you have Dhs 150 or more to shell out per shisha, this poolside venue is great! It offers a laid back vibe and views to match (think Dubai Marina). Recommended seating spot: the steps (provided the weather is good).

6. QD’s, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Deira (04 295 6000)

It’s your best bet when you want something chilled out yet cool. Its spectacular views of Dubai Creek are best enjoyed around sunset, but equally nice later at night. The venue is open until 2am on weekdays and until 3am from Thursday to Saturday. Prices start from AED 70.

7. Reem Al Bawadi, Sh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard (04 443 9690)

It’s not a restaurant, it’s an institution. While most people might recommend its oldest branch on Jumeirah Beach Road, our suggestion is the Downtown one for its stunning view of Burj Khalifa and palm tree-lined streets.Prices start from AED 50.
